You can’t please everybody all the time. Which brings us to a brother-in-law who is the personification of the classic cereal commercial “Mikey doesn’t like anything”—at least when it comes to gifts.

Interesting, the Amazon description says these are novelty shoe lights for camping. The brother-in-law doesn’t camp, but he does wear his Crocs—and hence these lights—just about everywhere else.
You might give these Crocs headlights as a joke, but prepare for the same full-on embrace from your intended. The overwhelmingly positive reception to this gift tempts us to succumb to a common tendency of gift givers when they’ve scored once: I’m tempted to double down.

The brother-in-law can surprise—as evidenced by his deep appreciation for Lady Gaga: Strange and Beautiful.
The gifting of this $20 book of 70 color photos on 128 pages was not a flier on another sister’s part. He’d mentioned Gaga more than once, and it was noted. Also noted by his wife, who accidentally gave the book to Goodwill.
