About Gift Givers HQ

Gift Givers HQ is the collaboration of a Chicago-based team. Although one person does most of the writing (hi), we draw on the ideas and inspiration of a panel representing a cross-section of ages, interests and experiences.

For our team, it’s often better to give than to receive.

In fact, the psychological benefits of gift-giving have been studied, with gift-givers categorized by personality type:

  • Market mavens – Information gatherers who enjoy sharing product knowledge
  • Sensation seekers – Prefer novel, exciting or experiential gifts
  • Frugal consumers – Focus on value, practicality, and cost-effectiveness
  • Grateful individuals – More likely to give spontaneously and frequently

Yep, we have every one of those personas represented on the team curating what you’ll read about on Gift Givers HQ.

To us, each gift is an opportunity. We want to rise to the occasion.

The opportunity is to give something that says “We see you. We’re listening to you. We pay attention to what you’re paying attention to.”

Gift givers want to please. We want to give what somebody wants. Ideally, we’re hoping to surprise and delight with something they didn’t even know they wanted—maybe with something the intended recipient didn’t even know existed. And now loves!

We’re energized by what gift-giving entails: the inkling of an idea, the strategy, the planning, the budgeting, the research, the deliberation, the competition…that moment when we hand over (or arrange to deliver) what we gave so much thought to.

We can be just as excited to give as the recipient is to receive.

Is there risk involved in gift-giving? Yes! Wrong size. Wrong color. Wrong thing. It broke.

The dueling prospect of success versus failure motivates us to keep at it, to keep refining our idea and the expression of our idea. For all the choice and convenience it affords, buying online has its share of gotchas. We pride ourselves on our ability to X-ray product descriptions and to detect common themes in reviews. We will prevail.

Finally and this is relevant: Sometimes gift-giving is a solitary pursuit. But often it’s a collaboration—the result of putting our heads together, passing links, texting screenshots, comparing notes.

As much as we enjoy our own gift-giving, we love to participate in others’. Gift givers are never at a loss to propose an idea, to follow-up with information, to continue to work on it long after a conversation has ended. We know we can serve as a resource!

Any of this sound familiar? Then you’ve come to the right place. This is where you belong. Please make yourself at home on Gift Givers HQ.
